Liverpool's Manager Provides Zero Justifications and Pledges to Plot Way From Malaise

Arne Slot stated he had to “examine my own performance” following the Reds suffered a 6th defeat in 7 Premier League games at home to Nottingham Forest and insisted he would discover a solution out of the champions’ slump.

Forest, fighting against the drop before kick off, delivered the biggest victory at Liverpool's stadium in their history as Liverpool fell to an eighth loss in 11 matches in all competitions. The British record signing, Alexander Isak, was again unnoticeable and the home side contended the defender's opener should have been disallowed for comparable grounds to the captain's chalked-off goal versus Manchester City prior to the international break. But Slot conceded the responsibility rested with him and made no excuses.

“No one wants to listen to me now speaking about officiating calls if you are defeated 3-0 in your own stadium to Nottingham Forest,” said the Liverpool head coach. “I ought to examine myself first and my team, but it does show you how a score can change the flow of a match. Earlier I was just hoping for us to score a goal. Afterwards we barely generated any chances.

“Naturally there is a way out, especially with the quality players we have. No matter if you win or are beaten when you look back you are always considering: ‘In which areas can we improve, in what aspects can we adjust?’ but that is something else from questioning your abilities.

“I want to stress I am responsible for the current defeats. You are answerable when you are victorious but also responsible when you are defeated. I can not come up with enough excuses for us to have the outcomes we have. That is far from acceptable and I am to blame for that.”

Liverpool’s display unravelled as Slot made several offensive changes when chasing the match. “It was the same on the road at Forest the previous campaign,” he said. “I substituted Ibou [Ibrahima Konaté] off and put on [Diogo] Jota and he found the net immediately to equalize at 1-1. Then it was courageous, now it’s probably stupid.”

Liverpool previously were defeated in two successive home league fixtures against Nottingham Forest in 1963. The last time they lost consecutive league matches by a three-goal margin was in the mid-60s.

The manager said: “It was extremely poor. Playing at home, conceding 3-0 no matter which opponent you face is a terrible outcome. Unexpected if you look at the first half-hour of the game. I haven’t seen us creating so much in the opening half-hour perhaps the whole campaign, and the first time they entered in our penalty area they scored.

“It did not happen against Manchester City, but in every other fixture we have been the dominant side and were able to generate opportunities. Recently it is almost consistently that we miss our chances and the attempts we concede find the net.”
