Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his position after a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve games, representing the team's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received a lot of backing from the top,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I perceive the belief. But I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Issues and Player Response
Slot highlighted recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell like this with results like these.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to its rightful place, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
